A native of Taiwan, Ling Yun (b. 1941) was born Lin Lung Sung and at the age of 18 began acting under the name Lung Sung in Taiwanese and Mandarin dialect films. After completing the two years of military service that is compulsory in Taiwan, he was recruited by Shaw Brothers in 1964 and moved to Hong Kong. Re-christened Ling Yun, he made his Shaw Brothers debut in Pink Tears, starring opposite Julie Yeh Feng. Ling Yun was a top Shaw Brothers leading man for a dozen of years, starring in over thirty films belonging to all genres. After leaving Shaw Brothers in the late 1970's, he continued to act in both Hong Kong and Taiwanese films and also directed. He retired from the movie scene in 1987.
