In 2003, Jin graduated from Central Drama Academy with a degree in performance.
In 2010 Jin married actress Jia Li / Joane Li. They have a son born in 2015 and another son born in 2017.
Jin reportedly gained 10 kg for his role as Ming Lou in the popular drama The Disguiser (2015) which gave him mainstream popularity.
In 2017 Jin became the vice president of China Television Artists Association.
