Siuchow's parents are both university lecturers. He has four daughters in total. The oldest, Cheng Onyee, was from his first low-profile marriage that ended in divorce. He married well-known actress Lydia Shum Dinha in 1985 after 14 years of cohabitation, and Lydia brought him to fame. Siuchow and Lydia had a daughter, Joyce Cheng, two years into their marriage. They divorced eight months after their daughter's birth in bad terms. In 1989, Siuchow married a Taiwanese actress named Koon Jingwah. Cheng Siuchow and Jingwah have two daughters, Winnie Cheng Wingyan and Cecily Cheng Winghei.

Siuchow started his career in the 1970's where he gained a reputation for playing the lead roles in TVB Wuxia drama-series based on the works of Jin Yong and Gu Long, such as "The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber" and "The New Adventures of Chor Lau Heung". He also performed some of the theme songs of the TV-series he starred in, such as "The Greed of Man and Cold Blood Warm Heart." Cheng Siuchow is still working on TV-series with TVB in present time and considered to be one of the veteran actors who have maintained their popularity for a long time!
